The readability score ranges from 0 (difficult to read) to 10 (easy to read & understand) and is mainly based on the length of the sentences used and the number of syllables of individual words. Longer sentences with more complicated words are always rated "more difficult". However, a low readability score is not equally bad. The level has no influence on the content score. It always depends on the target group that the content should reach at the end. A reader of an article in a specialized magazine will usually have already dealt more with the topic and will therefore have less difficulty reading a more complex text. An article that explains a topic from the bottom up should be written as easily as possible so that all readers understand it.
